MEET HEATHER

Heather Phillips, LCSW, PMH-C

Pronouns: She/Her

Hi, I'm Heather. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW) in the states of Oregon and Washington, and Perinatal Mental Health Specialist (PMH-C) trained in EMDR. My office is located in Portland, OR.

I primarily work with adults and adolescents, and welcome people of any identity. I am committed to providing compassionate, client-centered care, rooted in my values. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • I value knowledge gained through informal and formal education. I hold a Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW,) and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the states of Oregon and Washington. I am also a licensed supervisor for Clinical Social Work Associates in Oregon.

Much of my learning has been through direct service work, primarily in mental health programs embedded in educational and medical clinic settings, including over 10 years working specifically in the field of reproductive healthcare. I have specific training and experience in the field of Perinatal Mental Health and supporting women across the reproductive health continuum.

I also have experience and training supporting women and parents who have ADHD, or want to explore a possible ADHD diagnosis.

In addition, my personal experiences related to reproductive grief and loss, challenges with reproductive health and fertility, navigating most of my life with undiagnosed ADHD, and being a trauma survivor, also inform my work and deepen my understanding and compassion for others.

  • My approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and relational. I also sprinkle in humor, exploration of joy, and movement. It is informed by evidenced-based models of care, but centers my clients as experts in their own lives, and honors their inherent strengths and self-knowledge. Because lived experience is vital to the therapist-client relationship, I share that I am a white, cisgendered, able-bodied, heterosexual, neurodivergent parent and trauma survivor who has navigated pregnancy loss and the assisted reproductive health medical system. I am committed to advocacy and allyship, and to fostering growth in people’s ability to advocate for themselves.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR):

EMDR is a structured therapeutic approach that has been used to treat various mental health conditions, traumatic experiences, and distressing memories. EMDR-based interventions are the foundation of my work, and I use EMDR in a way that is flexible and tailored to you. I am EMDR Basic training certified, and currently working toward full certification.

Certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C)

I hold a certification in Perinatal Mental Health, (PMH-C) . "Perinatal Mental Health" refers to mental health concerns related to pregnancy or reproductive health. This includes; fertility, pregnancy, anxiety about birth, depression and/or anxiety in the perinatal period, abortions, miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, and processing difficult or traumatic birth experiences.

Interpersonal Therapy for the Perinatal Population (IPT-Perinatal): IPT-P is a structured form of therapy used to address life stage transitions, relational conflict, grief, and role disputes through making meaning of difficult life events and improving communication. -Level A Certified.

  • My personal interests include nature, food, and nurturing relationships with others. When I am not working, you will usually find me playing in my garden, spending time with my family of four, with friends, or snuggling up on the couch with my kitties and a book… or some reality t.v. if we’re being honest!

I am committed to lifelong learning and cultural humility, and make this a priority in my professional and personal education and growth.
